Belt of truth: Don’t be caught with your trousers on your feet….

Belt of truth: Don’t be caught with your trousers on your feet….

I believe it is God’s heart that I share something with you today which He showed me a while ago.

Eph.6:14a “….Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth…”

So as you know, the Bible speaks of the armor of God and part of the armor is the “belt of truth”. What was the use of the belt in Biblical times? When a man prepared for vigorous action, he tied up his loose, flowing garments with a belt (Is. 11:5, 5:27) from which strips of leather hung to protect the lower body. It also girded/secured other pieces of armor especially the scabbard which held the sword. Because the belt of truth is such an important part of the armor, I believe this is why Paul mentions it first in Eph.6:14-18.

One day, as I was reading about the armor of God, God showed me a picture of the belt of truth and how it was made up of many different links. He spoke into my heart and said that if there is ever anything in scripture or in my understanding of who He is, that I am not sure of or that I am questioning, that I should ask Him immediately without delay. No matter how small it might seem to me. He reminded me that many times I would push small uncertainties to the side thinking that “it’s really not that important, I will deal with it later”. But later never comes and in the meantime, it will be just that “little thing” that the enemy will use to attack me. Why? Because one of my links in my belt of truth is gone which means no belt! No belt means no sword. God clearly said “Nothing is ever too small. Keep asking and you SHALL receive your answer! Keep knocking, Keep seeking!! The enemy is walking around like a roaring lion looking to devour. Believe that I exist and that I will reward those who earnestly seek Me! Just like every part of the armor is of utmost importance, so is the belt and the sword. Take up the whole armor, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

1 Thessalonians 5:21 “Test all things; hold fast what is good.”

We should be like the Bereans. Ever heard of the Bereans?

In Acts 17:11 we are told that the Bereans were noble in that they received the word “with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”These Bereans were solid people!!      Eph. 4:14,15 was clearly true of them: “that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ…”

1 Peter 1:13
Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ…

Peter used an interesting analogy: “Gird up the loins of your mind.” This implies tucking in long garments to be ready to move quickly.

The question: Is your belt missing a few links and what are you going to do about it?

My prayer for you as you read this is that Holy Spirit will remind you of missing links and that you will make haste to enquire of the Lord as to the answers so that you can be fully dressed in your armor – belt, sword and all. We are not of this world but we are still in this world. There is a very real battle raging in the spirit realm and you are a soldier in His army! Are you ready?

Spread the love
