Mi casa su casa, Holy God!
In 2 Cor.10:3-5 we read “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”
ANOINTING is one such a weapon and it is powerful. According to the Bible, it had and still has different functions: Anointed by the oil of gladness (Ps.45:7), God anointing us (2 Cor.1:21-22), Anointing the sick (Jam.5:14), The Lord’s Anointed (Luk.4:18a), The anointing of kings and priests (Ex.29:7), The believers anointing (1 John2:27), Breaking bonds (Is.10:27), Deliverance (Mark.6:12-13)
But the reason for this blog, though, is to focus on the anointing of our homes. God functions on yes or no, hot or cold, right or wrong. There is no in-between, no grey areas, no lukewarm, no compromise. Matt.6:24 tells us that we can only serve one master “for either he will be loyal to the one and despise the other”. We make a decision for God and only God. For His kingdom to reign in our lives but also in our houses. Anointing our homes is a symbol of this and carries great weight in the spirit. It is literally telling the enemy that this house (while you are living in it, is under your authority and you choose God’s authority to reign) is now holy, sacred and set apart for God’s Kingdom and can no longer be used for the purpose of any other kingdom. (It is important to ask God to show you whether you have anything in your home which is not His heart for you to have or could be linked to idol worship/have been prayed over by other religions that you are not aware of and to then throw such items out). So what does the word “anointing” mean?
The word anointing In Hebrew is “mishchah moshchah” meaning “consecrated portion, anointing oil, portion, ointment”. According to Strong’s dictionary, the word comes from the verb “mashach” which means “to smear, anoint, spread a liquid”. The word Oil In Hebrew is “shemen” which means “fat, oil, grease, especially liquid (as from the olive)”. So you get the idea, right? Plain and simply put: It is smearing or oiling something and by doing this we declare that the object, property, person is set apart, holy, sacred, consecrated for God’s Kingdom and none other and that if anything else touches it, it will become holy too. Here are some examples from scripture…
Ex.40:9 “And you shall take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it, and you shall hallow it and all its utensils, and it shall be holy.” Holy: In Hebrew is “qodesh” which means “apartness, holiness, sacredness, set-apartness, a sacred place or thing, dedicated, sanctuary.”
This is a very easy, basic concept to understand and apply and yet the enemy will do everything in his power to keep us from doing it. If you have not done it before, take your olive oil today or whichever oil available, pray over it that that specific oil is now holy and whatever touches it will be holy, set apart, sacred, sanctified, dedicated to the Kingdom of God and then prayerfully walk through your house and anoint the four corners of your property/house/room, windows and anything else the Holy Spirit leads you to. But have faith, while doing it, that God is faithful and that He hears your prayers. You can also anoint your spouse (or if they could join then even better so) as well as your children.
Lev.8:10 “Also Moses took the anointing oil, and anointed the tabernacle and all that was in it, and sanctified them.” Sanctified in Hebrew is “qadash” which means “to consecrate, prepare, dedicate, be holy, be separate, purify”.
The power of the anointing oil and the functions thereof was understood perfectly well in Biblical times. Gen.28:18 “Then Jacob rose early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put at his head, set it up as a pillar, and poured oil on top of it.” Ellicot’s commentary explained that oil was a symbol of the dedication of a thing to holy uses.
Let’s use the anointing oil not only as a weapon but as a tool to welcome God into our homes, and thereby saying to Him that we not only surrender our lives but also dedicate our belongings to Him to be holy and set apart for Him and for His purposes. And when you do that, you might notice that you may have limited the flow of His Presence more than you knew. Take a look at this beautiful verse: “For thus says the High and Lofty One, Who inhabits eternity, whose Name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, whith him who has a contrite (crushed) and humble (to become low) spirit, to revive (give life, nourish, preserve) the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.” Is.57:15
And then, dear reader, after you have anointed your home, when the enemy comes knocking – it wont be you answering the door!
