Point Break: Get rid of it!!

Point Break: Get rid of it!!

Has God ever used movies to speak to you symbolically? He does that with me all the time! Actually, I always ask Holy Spirit to guide me when choosing a movie to watch and many times I ask Him to interpret whatever movie I am about to watch – I like watching movies with Jesus. I find I enjoy them so much more. (Do yourself a favour and try it. “Green Lantern”, for example, will blow your mind if you watch with the mindset of seeing the symbolic behind it and if you compare it with how God’s Kingdom works.) Yes, not only Christian movies but also Secular movies! Get out of your legalistic box, choose to eat the meat and throw out the bones. 😉

Point Break (the 2015 version) was another movie I watched through which God spoke to me clearly. I felt to share it with you. Its so awesome to me and so applicable for this season – especially after Angus Buchan specifically spoke/prayed against fear on the 22nd of April.

So what is the movie about?

Thrill-seeking criminals perform a series of daredevil stunts to steal money and gems, only to give it away to the poor and less fortunate. Training for a job with the FBI, young recruit Johnny Utah suspects that only extreme athletes could pull off these heists. Utilizing his own special skills, Utah infiltrates the gang of thieves after befriending their charismatic leader, Bodhi. As Johnny experiences the rush of their lifestyle, his superiors fear that his loyalties are being tested.”

And, boy, these “extreme athletes” pull some seriously dangerous but exhilarating stunts – surfing the biggest waves in the word, free climbing the highest cliffs, free diving, wing suit flying, extreme snowboarding etc!!! What caught my attention was the part where Bodhi explained to Utah what “point break” is. “Its where fear becomes your master and you become its slave.” Then one of the other gang members also comment, “A man who pushes boundaries always finds them.” Which explains exactly how deadly the game was that they were playing. This part of the movie got stuck in my head and the next morning I asked God what He said about all of this.

You can maybe imagine what His response was to the first statement “where fear becomes your master and you become its slave”!!? Where fear completely overcomes you. I immediately heard 1 John 4:18  There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” THERE SHOULD BE NO POINT BREAK IN YOUR LIFE!

When we reach our  “point break” moments we have not truly grasped the Perfect Love of God for us. In this movie, point break meant death to these guys. In our daily lives it may not have the same drastic effect on us, but the enemy will surely have stolen from us, maybe from family or spouses close to us and infinitely from that life of abundance that we could have had in Jesus. (John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”)

The second statement was “A man who pushes boundaries always finds them.” As I brought this statement before God, He answered: “So who put the boundaries there? It wasn’t Me! Apart from My Word, the Bible, who put boundaries in your life??” Haha, don’t you just love this God, fearless and full of Love! I asked Him, well isn’t that a bit dangerous to say? Boundaries are a good thing, aren’t they? He then reminded me of a 10km road run I took part in a while ago. As I was running, God spoke to me and He said to me “who told you you can only run this far? What if I tell you you can run further? Who you going to believe?” “Well,”I replied, “ I know my fitness level at the moment and how far I can push myself.” God said, “And if I tell you you can go much further? Get rid of your boundaries! I am a God of the supernatural!!”  Supernatural meets physical and BOOM! You have a miracle!! If we were created to God’s image (Gen.1) and if Jesus said we can do the same works He did while on earth and greater things (John 14:12-14), what’s holding us back?? Chew on that one!!! 🙂

So whats the bottom line? While on earth, Jesus only did what He saw His Father doing (John 5:19). The question is, is this the truth in our lives as well? We only do what God tells us? If we are still following boundaries, then we are limited in our following God, in our Faith. We struggle to hear God because we measure /sift everything through boundaries. We follow God in a limited measure, because we have boundaries to keep. What does God say? Well, to me He said: “Get rid of boundaries/limits. They are not of Me! Follow Me relentlessly! No limits, No boundaries. Go bigger, greater, wilder!” So, join me and dare to embark on this fearless adventure in Perfect Love – doing ONLY what we see our Father doing. No holding back!

As I am typing this, a beautiful testimony comes to mind of a man who had no boundaries in Jesus and only did as he saw his Father doing. It is the origin of the famous old song “I have decided to follow Jesus”:

The lyrics are based on the last words of an Assamese man, who along with his family decided to follow Jesus Christ in the middle of the 19th century through the efforts of a Welsh missionary. Called to renounce his faith by the village chief, the convert declared, “I have decided to follow Jesus.” His children was then killed, In response to threats, he still continued, “Though no one joins me, still I will follow.” His wife was killed, and he was executed while singing, “The cross before me, the world behind me.” This display of faith is reported to have led to the conversion of the chief and the rest of the village.

How do we know where our “point break” is so we may pray and overcome it through perfect love? We ask God where we have boundaries that are not of Him! And we pray that He remove them. Do it now, get rid of them once and for all and start living a life of abundance in Christ!! Go wing suit flying with Jesus! 🙂

Spread the love
